    Our Vision

    A specialist practice, built carefully.

Spence Attorneys exists to provide focused, high-quality legal work in a defined set of practice areas - delivered with the precision and accountability the work demands.

    The vision

    What we are building

Spence Attorneys is a boutique Cape Town law firm based in Pinelands. The firm is intentionally specialist - we work in a defined set of practice areas including conveyancing, notarial practice, deceased estates, estate planning, family law, dispute resolution and corporate and commercial work.

Our vision is straightforward: to do focused legal work well. That means staying within the areas in which we have genuine expertise, applying defined processes to each matter, and giving advice that is honest about both the strength and the limits of a position.

We are not trying to be everything to everyone. We are trying to be a firm that clients return to because the work is done properly, the communication is clear, and the advice can be relied upon.

    The mission

    How we approach the work

Each matter begins with a structured intake and a clear scope. We agree the scope of work, the people responsible and the fee basis before substantive work is undertaken. This is true whether the matter is a property transfer, a notarial certification, a deceased estate or a contested commercial issue.

Once a matter is underway, our focus is on accurate execution and steady communication. Drafting is reviewed. Deadlines are tracked. Clients are kept informed at the points that matter, in language that does not require a legal background to follow.

Where the right answer is uncomfortable - that a claim is weaker than hoped, that a transaction is not commercially advisable, that a dispute is better settled than fought - we say so. The value of the advice depends on its independence.

    Operating principles

The standards we hold ourselves to

    Specialist focus

We work within a defined set of practice areas where we can deliver depth rather than breadth. Where a matter falls outside that focus, we say so and refer it on.

    Defined process

Each matter type is supported by a structured intake, scope and review process. The aim is consistent, predictable execution rather than ad hoc work.

    Clear communication

Clients are kept informed in plain language, with realistic timelines and a defined point of contact. There are no surprises on fees or process.

    Independent advice

We give honest advice, including where the most straightforward answer is not the most commercially convenient one. Independence sits at the centre of how the firm operates.

    Looking ahead

    Where the firm is going

The firm continues to invest in the things that make specialist work possible: well-defined processes, the right technology to support them, and the development of the practitioners doing the work.

Growth is approached cautiously. We would rather grow slowly within our defined practice areas than expand into work we cannot do as well as it should be done. The objective is for the firm to be one our clients are confident referring others to.
